Dear Porpoise Spit Tourism Council Members,
If you have not subscribed to the magazine Hospitality One, I seriously suggest that you do so as soon as possible. Last month, I read an article called Changing Expectations written by the head of the government’s Tourism Department. It was one of the most informative and thought-provoking articles I have ever read. My first thought was to use the information for my own company’s benefit without raising the ideas with competitors who would also benefit from it. However, that would be the wrong way to proceed. While it is true that we are competing against each other to attract visitors, in a more important sense, we are competing with other tourism destinations. The overall reputation of Porpoise Spit as a coastal holiday destination is more important than any one accommodation provider’s image.
Another article in last month’s issue that I believe is even more important to Porpoise Spit is one which discusses ways to make customers return again and again. This is a very difficult task. Travelers tend to want to explore different places. Bringing them back takes more than friendly faces and delicious food and it is something that we should do more to promote.
Sincerely,
Rod Ames
